Ice Packs, Marlys returns, Subs
Ice Packs have arrived they are in the conference room in Central. If you need some pick them up Wednesday or Thursday when you attend the meetings.
Marlys is back in the afternoons at Peter Hobart. Drop her an email or give her a call to say welcome back
sorensen.marlys@slpschools.org or call 928-6596.
Subs...some are superb and don't need direction, some need that extra push and told what to do. If they are doing something you don't approve of TELL THEM. Last few weeks have been filled with staff illness and vacation (that has been approved months ago) and we only have so many people we can call to work. Plus not all subs want to work when you call them. If there is someone you just prefer not to work in your room let us know.

Accident reports for adults
There is a special form called "First Report of Injury" that needs to be filled out if a staff is injured. Most of us have not been filling this out unless it is something very serious and the person needs to be taken by ambulance or needs to go to the doctor immediately.
We need you to fill this out even if it is something minor, i.e. someone twists their ankle or even gets hit in the face with a basketball. We have had several instance where people think it is something minor and a few days later when they are still in pain want to claim workman's comp. So we need a injury report that was filled out the day of the incident and they are supposed to go to the Alliana clinic in Plymouth within 24 hours of the injury. We also need to notify HR right away.
There is a copy of the form under the HR tab on the school website. If you have any questions ask your site supervisor.

Personal/Emergency Leave
Just a heads up for everyone - in our contracts we have 3 personal/emergency leave days. These days come out of your sick days. So if you don't have any sick days left you don't have any emergency days either.
In the past Mary Shultz let you use these for anything, christmas shopping, extra vacation etc...
The new HR person is sticking more closely with the wording in our contracts and will NOT be approving personal days for just any old thing.
The following is her response to my email:
Emergency leave is to take care of things that come up out of the blue that being said christmas shopping no. Furnace out, pet sick, car broken down are good examples of when you can use it. k

Also in the past people have been able to take more vacation days than their allotted amount for the year. They just took them as unpaid. HR is no longer allowing this. So if you only get 10 days per year but you want to go on a 15 day vacation you will have to save some from one year and wait until the following year to take your trip. You may not use your personal days as vacation days.
You will notice in ERMA when you put in your vacation requestif you have run out of days it will not allow you to submit the request.
