July 1 Field trip to Como Zoo

There will be 4 buses to Como Zoo. Leave Central at 9:30. Leave Como Zoo at 3:15

Bus #1 -  Rm 112 and Rm 221
Bus #2 -  Rm 210 and Rm 223
Bus #3 -   Rm 209
Bus #4 -  Rm 217
If it is too crowded on the first 2 buses there will be room to send a few of your kids or staff on the second 2 buses.

You will all view the animals from 10:00-12:00.

Kindergarten will only being using the Hodge Podge Park this year. Everyone else will be getting a three hour wristband.

I will get the wristbands and have them ready for you by 11:45. Please call or text me with final numbers when you load the bus.

KDGN staff will be in Hodge Podge Park.

Rm 112, 210, 209 & 217 staff will monitor the three entrances to Como town.

We will have one staff from each of the 1-5 grade rooms positioned at an assigned gate.

The staff at the gate must be in position at 12:00.

Rm 210 & 112 will staff #1 entrance & monitor the bathrooms by the front gate.

Rm 209 #2 entrance.

Rm 217 #3 entrance.

The other staff will circulate around the park to monitor the children and go on rides with children that are too short and need an adult to ride with them.

The children will be allowed to go on their own with a partner to the rides they want. They need to stay with their partner at all times.

All kids belong to all of the staff. It is your responsibility to monitor the behavior of any child wearing a KP t-shirt.

If you have some children that do not want to ride the rides in Comotown and want to spend more time with the animals you can send one of your staff with a group back to the zoo area after lunch.

Vendors at Comotown will provide water for free if we have our own water bottles or cups.

The bathrooms are locate by the main entrance (#1)

There are also water fountains there, but some years they have been broken.

Please talk to your kids about:

3. ·      Not budding in line
4. ·      Staying hydrated
5. ·      Behavior in the bathrooms

Extra swim suits

We have not found the old swim suits yet so I bought some new spare swim suits. They are in our office under the security window. Please remember to get them back, wash them and bring back to the office.
We are in need of extra towels. I f you have some old ones at home that you are willing to donate that would be great.
Also maybe ask parents if they have old towels or swim suits that don't fit anymore that they might donate.

Your class should pick a spot and put all of your shoes/personal belongs in that spot. This spot should be away from the skate rental counter so that other groups are not tripping over your kids when they come in. You might want to bring a garbage bag or 2 to put the shoes in. We have lost shoes in the past and had to bring kids back in stocking feet.

You may want to bring along some card games or coloring sheets for kids that don't want to skate.

I am having the older kids go first it would be wonderful if some of the older kids would be willing to help the younger ones with their skates.


Please go over the rules with your kids before you get on the bus:

1. Skate in the "all skate direction", which is usually counter clockwise unless the DJ says to reverse direction.

2. When they need to get off the skate floor they should exit gradually around the circle not just turn sideways and cut across traffic.

3. If they fall down they should get up immediately and get to the side unless they are unable to move. If they lay on the floor there is a good chance of getting run over and more serious injuries.

4. Food needs to be eaten in the concession area. Wrappers, candy pieces, spills on the floor are very dangerous. When wheels hit these items the wheels stop but the bodies keep going.

5. No sitting on the wall.

6. No playing tag on or off the skate floor.

7. At the end the children need to tuck the laces in their skates and return them to the counter.

There are 3 buses going to Comedy Sportz. They will all leave Central at 12:30 and leave Calhoun Square at around 2:15. I am not sure exactly how long the show runs.
